Graveyard Keeper 2 Energy, Sleep & the Sauna
“Graveyard keeper 2 tired” went up 800% at launch, and the tired state is easy to misread: it is not about your energy bar — it is about days without sleep. Here is the full energy loop, including the Sauna everyone is asking about.
The Energy Bar
- Energy is the blue bar in the top-left of the HUD; nearly every action drains it — digging, chopping, mining, crafting, autopsies
- It refills by eating or sleeping — food and drink are your daytime refills, the bed is the nightly reset
- The exact max value and per-action drain are not documented yet; the loop matters more than the numbers
Tired: The “Lack of Sleep” State
- Tiredness appears after roughly two in-game days without sleeping — not when energy hits zero
- You will see a blue “Zz” circle icon at the top of the HUD with a sound cue
- While tired: every action costs extra energy and insanity rises faster
- Only sleeping clears it — eating does not. If your food seems to stop working, you are tired, not bugged
The Sauna: Promotional Building, Not a Rescue Button
- The Sauna is the game’s promotional bonus building: officially listed as the pre-order bonus (a personal sauna outside the player’s house, bundled with an exclusive outfit), and our launch-week coverage also records it as a demo reward — see preorder bonus
- Official marketing describes it as a “rejuvenating session” — a place to take a break. The exact in-game effect (energy restore, insanity relief) is not documented anywhere yet
- Some launch-day buyers reported the sauna missing from their game (3DNews, Sep 23) — a launch-week delivery issue, not a feature removal
- Until the effect is datamined, treat sleep as the reliable recovery mechanic
Food & Drink That Refill You
- Cooked food beats raw crops — Berry Pie restores +30 energy (and lowers insanity) for 4 dough + 6 berries, four pies per batch
- Beer from the tavern keeper restores +52 energy and lowers insanity by 12 — the best single drink found so far
- Baked goods vary from -3 to -5 insanity each with energy on top; see insanity for the full recovery table
GK1 Baseline: How Tiredness Changed
GK1’s tiredness was energy-based: it triggered after using 300 energy (three full bars) without sleep, then drained -1 energy per second until you slept, stopping at half a bar. GK2’s version is time-based (~two days) and adds the insanity pressure on top. Same lesson both games: sleep every day or two, and treat bedtime as your save point.
