Graveyard Keeper 2 Beginner Guide

Graveyard Keeper 2 hands you the Grand Inquisitor’s job rather than the Keeper’s, but the opening loop is the one fans know: keep the graveyard, feed the church, and automate everything you can. This guide walks the first days using the Sep 2026 demo build.

What Graveyard Keeper 2 Actually Is

You are the Grand Inquisitor: part graveyard manager, part town rebuilder, part general of an undead workforce. The Steam page puts it plainly — restore the Town, lead your undead army, automate production and fortify the town against undead attacks. GK1 veterans will recognise faith, corpses and alchemy; the Town restoration campaign on top of it is the new spine of the game.

Should You Start With the Demo?

Yes — the demo is 3-4 hours of content that runs to the moment “The Town appears”, and your demo save carries over to the full game on Sep 22. It is also the honest way to test whether the management loop clicks for you before paying. Full details are on the demo page.

First Days Walkthrough

  1. Learn the burial loop. Every corpse you bury earns certificates and coin. Prepare the body before burial instead of dumping it in a hole — see body prep.
  2. Unlock the church. Clear Jack’s boat quest: bring 5 Wooden Planks and 5 Bronze Details, which opens the way to the church questline.
  3. Craft 5 Clay Plates for the Twins. You need Pottery I and the Potter’s Wheel before you can hand them over.
  4. Deliver the Nun’s letter. The chain sends you to meet the Nun at the Tavern, which opens the Temple.
  5. Run your first Mass. Sermons happen once per in-game week, on Wrath day — see faith for the calendar symbol and the payout formula.

Mistakes to Avoid

Demo → Full Game Carryover

Your demo progress — including the Sauna and Outfit demo rewards — continues into the full release. Because of that, treat the demo as the real first chapter rather than a throwaway: build your graveyard properly and leave your tech tree in a clean state for the Sep 22 launch.
